Kings County Dog Leash Laws

Dogs are part of our lives. Dog owners tend to involve dogs in everyday activities as much as possible, and in so doing their pets get socialized, stimulated and they get the exercise that they need. Everyone who owns a dog is used to taking them out into the world, but we need to do so safely.

Dog leash and running at large laws are a common way for people to adhere to behavioral standards. Below you’ll find a list of the incorporated communities in Kings County. Kings County Dog Leash Laws

The Kings County dog leash laws apply to the unincorporated areas of the county.

Kings County Dog Leash Law Text:

Article IV, Sec. 4-67. – Animals at large generally.

It shall be unlawful for any person owning or having possession of any animal to permit it to be at large without reasonable control or to be pastured or kept upon any street or other public place or upon any private property against the wishes of the owner or occupant thereof or in any manner or place to the injury of the owner or occupant of any other property. No fowl on its owner’s property shall be deemed at large.

Hanford Dog Leash Laws

Hanford Restraint of Dogs Law Text:

Chapter 6.08, § 6.08.020 Restraint of animals.

A. Any person owning or having charge, custody, care or control of any animal (except cats) kept or harbored in the city shall confine such animal exclusively upon such owner’s premises, except when otherwise properly restrained as hereinafter provided.

B. No person shall allow or permit any animal (except cats) to run at large or be pastured, herded, staked, or tied in or on any public alley, street, sidewalk, vacant lot, school grounds, or other public place belonging to or under the control of the city or in such a way as to trespass in any manner upon any of the aforesaid public places.

C. No person shall permit any animal (except cats) to be at large or to go or be upon the premises owned or occupied by any other person in the city without said person’s consent.

D. All dogs shall be kept under restraint at all times. All unrestrained dogs will be considered running at large, except:

1. Assistance dogs while performing their duties;

2. Dogs participating in field or obedience trials or exhibitions;

3. Dogs assisting a security or police officer engaged in law enforcement activities;

4. Dogs being trained on private land with permission of the landowner, so long as the dogs are under the direct control of such individuals to assure they do not violate any other provision or law;

5. At designated areas of designated parks within the city that contain a “dog park.”

Avenal Dog Leash Law

Avenal Dog Leash Law Text:

Title 6, Section 6-1.05 Prohibited conduct.

No owner or possessor of any animal shall cause, permit, or allow the animal to do any of the following: (a) To be upon any public street, sidewalk, park, school ground, any public property, or upon any unenclosed premises in the City unless the animal is properly licensed and saddled, harnessed, haltered, or leashed by a substantial chain, lead rope, or leash, which chain, lead rope, or leash shall be continuously held by some competent person capable of controlling such animal. All cats shall be exempted from the provisions of this section; (b) To trespass upon any private property without the consent of the owner thereof, and it shall further be unlawful for the owner or keeper of any animal, after receiving written notice by registered mail from any owner or tenant of private property, to allow or permit the animal to remain upon the property or to habitually continue to trespass thereon;

Corcoran Dog Leash Law

Corcoran Dog Leash Law Text:

Chapter 4, Section 5-4D-1: LEASH LAW:

It is unlawful for any person to suffer or permit any dog owned, harbored, or controlled by him/her to be on any public street, alley, lane, park or place of whatever nature open to and used by the public in any area of the city unless such dog is securely leashed and the leash is held continuously in the hands of a responsible person capable of controlling such dog, or unless the dog is securely confined in a vehicle. It is unlawful for any person to permit any dog owned, harbored, or controlled by him/her to be on any private property in any area of the city without the permission of the person owning or occupying said private property.

Lemoore Dog Leash Law

Lemoore Dog Leash Law Text:

Title 5, Section 5-1-66: LEASH LAW:

It is unlawful for any person to permit any dog owned, harbored or controlled by him to be on any public street, alley, lane, or place of whatever nature open to and used by the public in any area of the city, except a park or park area designated by the council to be a dog park, unless such dog is securely leashed and the leash is held continuously in the hands of a responsible person capable of controlling such dog, or unless the dog is securely confined in a vehicle.

It is unlawful for any person to suffer or permit any dog owned, harbored, or controlled by him to be on any private property in any area of the city without the permission of the person owning or occupying said private property.
